Baltimore native Sonia Chase attended McDonogh School, in Owings Mills, Maryland and became a four-year Varsity starter and two-time captain in high school. She was the first female athlete in school history to score over 3,000 points and also set records that currently still stand today for scoring, assists, rebounds and steals. As a senior in high school, Ms. Chase was selected as a Rollins-Leuktemeyer Scholar, honoring her as an all-around outstanding student-athlete.


Ms. Chase was awarded a four-year athletic scholarship to attend the University of Maryland, College Park. During college, she was a member of the Olympic Sports Festival Gold Medal Team and as the starting point guard led the team in steals. Graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language and Literature, Ms. Chase also earned a certificate of academic honor in Women’s Studies and Health. She was the first female in University of Maryland, College Park school history to be drafted to the Women’s National Basketball Association and played for the Charlotte Sting and Minnesota Lynx. In the WNBA off-seasons, she traveled abroad to play professional basketball in various countries within the International Basketball Federation including Greece, Turkey, Italy, Spain, and China. Ms. Chase was also drafted to another women’s pro league called the National Women’s Basketball League and as the starting point guard averaged a double-double for the Birmingham Power. Over the span of her 8 year professional basketball career, some of her teammates included legendary icons such as Teresa Edwards, Dawn Staley, Vicky Bullet, and Chamique Holdsclaw just to name a few.


Since Ms. Chase’s retirement from professional sports, she has developed fitness and nutritional success management programs that support student-athletes. She was selected as Who’s Who in Black Washington, DC as an “Emerging Leader Women Under 40!” In addition, she gained vast experience in corporate America working in the pharmaceutical industry.


Currently, Ms. Chase is the President & CEO of Chase Your Dreams Inc whose mission is to help players develop elite basketball skills and prepare them for next-level opportunities. She is also the Founder & Executive Director of Chase Your Dreams Academy, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, whose mission is to facilitate positive transformation in high need and underserved youth through a holistic approach that includes character enrichment, sports, and nutrition. Her organizations have impacted the lives of over 4,400 youth since 2009. Ms. Chase is known around the world as a “Shooting Specialist” and has personally trained NBA/ WNBA to 6 year olds how to shoot with proper form, mechanics, and footwork.


In addition to running her companies, Ms. Chase currently dedicates her life as an Ambassador and conduit of good will with the National Basketball Retired Players Association serving various youth and corporate organizations throughout the world as an advisor and speaker.
